Have you noticed how many self help books there are nowadays on the shelves in your local bookshop? If you haven’t the next time your in town, pop in and have a look. Pick up any of these books and flick through them and you will find that nearly all of them say or ask the same old questions:
What do I want to be?
What do I want in my life?
What are my goals, my ambitions, my dreams, for my future?
All these questions focus on us.
All these self help books offer the same predictable ways to finding your life’s purpose;
Consider your dreams, consider your values, set some goals etc………figure out what you are good at, aim high, go for it, be disciplined, believe you can achieve your goals, involve others, never give up. These often can lead to success and more often than not they will. Yet being successful and fulfilling your life’s purpose are not the same thing……
You may choose your spouse, your job, other parts of your life but you do not get to choose your purpose. One thing you can be certain of is that You will never discover your life meaning by looking within yourself. True value and importance comes from understanding and fulfilling God’s purposes for putting us on earth.
Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self.” Jesus Christ
If there were no God, and everything was a result of inadvertent chance, there would be no purpose to your life. It all starts with God
