After studying many bible characters, champions and leaders and why some have succeeded and while others have failed, I have come to the knowledge that there are 2 principles that control our lives, our actions.
1st Principle: The Principle of Thought
“I think therefore I am”.. Descartes
You are what you think… Change your thoughts, change your life, how many times have we heard such words. How you think influences every aspect of your life. Whether you are full of confidence or full of fear all depends on the kind of thoughts that consistently reside in your mind.
How you think creates your attitudes, shapes your emotions, directs your behaviour and deeply influences your immune system.
Good positive thinking leads to healthy emotions, healthy desires, honourable intentions.
“A good tree cannot produce bad fruit and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit”.. Jesus Christ
Good thinking cannot produce bad results… bad thinking cannot produce good results.
In the book of Romans, Paul tells us “Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.”
2nd Principle: The Principle of Exposure
Your mind will think most about what it is exposed too. Or to put it another way, what repeatedly resides in your mind will eventually express itself in what you do and what you become.
We are exposed to thousands of images every day which can lead us in one direction or another. How often are we are exposed to images of violence, murder, criminal activity, images of a sexual nature through social media, televisions, movies, magazines and music etc. Teenagers sit on game consoles playing for hours on end where they are subjected to these images. Yet we get upset and shocked when we hear of young men and women, being murdered, students being shot while at school or when promiscuity and sexual addiction rises and more and more marriages break down !!!!
In today’s society, I feel we lack the will and self-restraint to create a society that are not saturated with images such as those I mentioned. I am amazed how often people think or live as if they could get away with violating the principle of exposure.
What you read, what you watch on tv, cinemas, the music listen to, the conversations you hold, even the daydreams you entertain, these are all shaping your mind and eventually your character, your destiny.
If you really want to become a champion, you must begin to think thoughts, expose yourself to images that will produce those characteristics. It all depends where your mind stays. The great news is that you can put these 2 principles to work for you.
So I urge you “Do not be brainwashed by this world”, instead like Peter, focus on Jesus and you too will walk on water……
